Abstract

The Collembola fauna was studied in the region of Ähtäri (Western Finland) in five different habitats (coniferous, deciduous and mixed forests). During the survey a total of 2007 specimens belonging to 32 species were collected. The most abundant species was Folsomia fimetarioides occurring in high numbers in all sampled habitats. Species richness and diversity were the highest in the pine forest, while total abundance peaked in the soil samples of the birch forest. Despite of the different plant composition of the sampled forests, community similarity (Bray-Curtis) was relatively high (41%<).
